Storms
I love the way I do my dying,
Alone and stealthily. I love the way
I do my resurrection without drums
And gongs and furious drums of wine.
I love solitude, the way I love the lush
Ebony skin of my first love. Solitude,
My friend, guarantees a kind of safety
Akin to the one a child feels in his mother’s
Warm embrace. I, too, shed tears: like
A toddler fetching nails out of his feet.
What I don’t deal in, is the mucus: regardless
Of how deep life’s deadly fangs might’ve
Journeyed into my fragile skull. I’ve lost
My way more than I’ve found my footings.
Yet, I’ve never rebuked God nor contemplated
The existence of his grand plans for me.
I love the way I do my dying,
Alone and stealthily. I love the way
I do my resurrection without drums
And gongs and furious drums of wine.
I love this new turn my life just took,
I see storms ahead.
